Solar PV Panels:

About solar panels work?

A solar PV panel consists of many cells made from layers of semi-conducting material, most commonly silicon. When light shines on this material, a flow of electricity is created.

The cells don’t need direct sunlight to work and can even work on cloudy days. However, the stronger the sunshine, the more electricity generated.

Energy-storage system:

How solar battery storage work?

Solar battery storage provides you with somewhere to store the energy you generate during the day so that you can use it during the evening and night, when your panels are not producing electricity. For this reason, Battery storage is an essential element of any Energy Independence journey.

Solar Infrared Heating:

What is Infrared Heating work?

Infrared heating is like bringing the sun’s heat inside your home. The benefit of Infrared heating is that

it heats the entire home and not just the air inside meaning your home stays warmer, for longer, forless!

Infrared or radiant heating transfers energy through infrared radiation. Heating panels which can be located in the floor, on the wall or the ceiling, use radiant heat transfer to deliver heat to people and objects in the room. As an example, radiant heating is the effect you feel when you can feel the warmth of a hot stovetop element from across the room.

How does solar Infrared Heating work?

Infrared heaters are far more energy-efficient because it consumes much less energy to heat also infrared warmth is much more instantaneous. You'll also experience much more uniform heat distribution across your rooms.

Solar Hot water Heating:

How does solar hot water work?

The benefit of installing one is that you can heat your hot water for free through the summer months and cheaply on a night when you need to.

Solar unvented hot water cylinders are ideal for homeowners looking for a greener central heating solution. With a dedicated solar coil fitted inside, unvented solar cylinders can be connected directly to solar panels that transfer energy from the sun and heat your stored water using this coil.

What is solar hot water?

Solar water heating systems, or solar thermal systems, use energy from the sun to warm water for storage in a hot water cylinder or thermal store and then provide the hot water you use in your taps and showers.

Whole Home power:

What is Whole Home Power ?

Our whole home systems add battery storage and inverters to you home solar system. This means you can run upto 70% of your homes electric and heating at no cost.

How does whole home Power work?

So how do a battery and an inverter operate? An inverter operates on a fairly straightforward concept.

The inverter/battery keeps its systems battery charged and full whenever there is a power source by using either AC power or some roof solar panels. The energy stored in certain batteries then functions as a generator to provide an uninterrupted power supply to your home when you want to run it entirely off solar power.

The inverter charger functions as a battery charger and then charges your battery. Alternatively, you might have a roof-mounted solar system that continuously charges the battery, allowing you to use solar energy to power your home off the grid.

One Of Our Successful Case Studies

A case study of our happy customers Geoff

The Challenge

Geoff lives in Seaham, in a 3 bedroomed semi-detached house that was built in 1990. The home benefits from the windows and external doors being double glazed, but, in line with modern standards and new Building Regulations, the walls and attic are poorly insulated. Geoff lives on his own, but he has regular visitors.

Geoff wanted to become energy independent. He already had solar panels installed at his home, but that, on their own, they were not providing him with the level of energy independence that he would like.

Geoff’s existing solar panel installation consisted of 16 x 150W solar panels. Had Geoff replaced his older panels with newer, more efficient ones, then he would have been able to achieve a much higher level of independence.

Prior to us commencing work at Geoff’s property, he was using approximately 12kW a day on average. The home was heated by a gas central heating system that was supported by a 150-litre immersion heater, and both gas and electricity were used to within the property. Geoff’s combined annual energy bill was £1,301, but as he received an annual feed-in tariff cheque of £800, the net result of his energy expenditure was £501 a year.

Our Solution

What Did Energy Independence Look Like For Geoff?

Geoff’s installation only took 6 days. We installed the following equipment: A 16.8 kWh battery and inverter solution to convert the generated and stored energy into energy that the home can use.

We added 12 electric infrared heating panels. The heaters were distributed throughout the home in every room, including hallways, and each heater was individually set to the Geoffs desired temperature to ensure maximum impact and minimum wasted energy.

A 210-litre unvented hot water cylinder with 3kW immersion heaters built in. We paired this unit with an Inline Hot Water System (ILHWS) unit to ensure the even flow/temperature of the water coming through the system and to assist in heating the water on low light days where necessary.

All equipment installed carried a manufacturer's guarantee of at least 20 years or the equivalent service hours equating to 20 years usage.

New Geoff Specs:

Existing 16 x 150W solar panels (existing panels)

16.8 kWh battery and inverter solution

12 electric infrared heating panels

210-litre unvented hot water cylinder

3kW immersion heaters

Inline Hot Water System (ILHWS)

How much Geoff Saved?

Geoff's system is achieving a 100% EIL in the brighter months, which is to be expected; however, it is also achieving very high EIL moments in the low light colder months, resulting in an average EIL of greater than 70% for the whole year. Had Geoff chosen to upgrade his panels to newer ones, then he would have achieved much higher EILs across the board as panels today are more than 300% more efficient than Geoff’s older panels. So this was a very successful installation.
